Panthenol (Provitamin B5)
The Wound Healer & Skin Soother

What is Panthenol? Panthenol is the "paramedic" among cosmetic active ingredients. It is the precursor (provitamin) of Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), a vitamin needed everywhere in the body for cell metabolism. Once panthenol penetrates the skin, it converts into this valuable vitamin. It is known worldwide for its healing and regenerating superpowers.
🏥 Healing & Repair
Panthenol is the first choice for minor skin emergencies. It promotes the formation of new skin cells (proliferation) extremely effectively.
- Wound Healing: It supports the closure of abrasions, minor burns, and sunburn.
- Anti-Inflammatory: It instantly relieves redness, itching, and sensations of heat (perfect after shaving or sunbathing).
- Scar Care: Through optimized skin regeneration, it helps keep scars elastic and inconspicuous.
💧 Moisture & Protection
Besides healing, panthenol is an excellent moisturizer. It penetrates deep into the skin layers and binds water there.
The Barrier Function:
- Strengthens the skin's natural lipid barrier, making it less sensitive to external irritants.
- Makes rough, cracked skin soft and supple again.
- In hair care products, it penetrates the hair shaft, providing shine and volume ("Pantene effect").
⚠ What you should watch out for
Application & Tolerance: Panthenol is considered extremely well tolerated and is even suitable for sensitive baby skin (often contained in diaper rash creams). There are hardly any known side effects. For a noticeable effect, the concentration in the product should ideally be between 2% and 5%.
