Lactic Acid

The Gentle Glow Booster & Moisture Pro
Milky texture and smooth skin surface

What is Lactic Acid? Lactic acid belongs to the group of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Contrary to what the name suggests, the lactic acid used in cosmetics is usually obtained vegan via sugar fermentation. It is a substance native to the body and part of the natural acid mantle. In skincare, it is considered the "gentle sibling" of glycolic acid: It exfoliates effectively but is significantly better tolerated.

✨ Gentle Exfoliation for More Glow

As an AHA, lactic acid dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells on the surface.

  • Radiant Complexion: By removing gray, dead skin cells, fresh, rosy skin is revealed.
  • Pigmentation Spots: With regular use, it helps to gently lighten hyperpigmentation and age spots.
  • Tolerance: Since the lactic acid molecule is larger than that of glycolic acid, it penetrates more slowly and irritates the skin less.

💧 NMF & pH Balance

Lactic acid can do more than just peel. It is an essential component of our skin's "Natural Moisturizing Factor" (NMF).

The caring properties:

  • Moisture Binder: It is strongly hygroscopic and increases the water content in the skin barrier.
  • pH Regulator: It helps to stabilize the skin's naturally slightly acidic pH value, which wards off bacteria and impurities.
  • Ceramide Booster: Studies show that it can stimulate the skin's own production of ceramides.

⚠ What you should watch out for

Sun Protection is Mandatory: Like all chemical peels, lactic acid makes the skin more sensitive to light because the top layer of the epidermis is thinned. Make sure to use UV protection during the day (at least SPF 30). Start slowly with low concentrations to allow the skin to get used to it.
