What is Limonene? When you peel an orange and that zesty scent hits your nose, you are smelling Limonene. It is a natural terpene found in high concentrations in the peels of citrus fruits. In cosmetics, it is loved not only for its fresh aroma but also as a functional ingredient that cleanses and dissolves.

Limonene is primarily a fragrance, but it also has biochemical effects on the skin and the product.

• Mood Booster: The scent has been proven to be mood-lifting, stress-relieving, and activating.
• Solvent: It has enormous grease-dissolving power. In cleansing products, it helps to effectively remove sebum and oily residues.

There are two forms (isomers) of this substance.

The variants:

• D-Limonene: The natural form that smells of orange and lemon (main component in essential oils).
• L-Limonene: Smells more resinous, like turpentine or pine (found in coniferous trees).
