Marigold (Calendula Officinalis)
The Sun Child & Gentle Healer

What is Calendula? The Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis) is the "sun of the garden". Its bright orange flowers follow the course of the sun and have been known as a remedy since the Middle Ages. In naturopathy, it is considered the "Arnica of the skin" – but it is much gentler and more compatible, making it suitable even for the most sensitive baby skin.
🏥 Wound Healing & Regeneration
Calendula is the absolute specialist when it comes to skin repair. The contained carotenoids and flavonoids massively accelerate tissue formation (granulation).
- Quick Relief: It promotes wound closure for small abrasions, cracks, or minor burns (including sunburn).
- Anti-inflammatory: Calendula extracts soothe inflamed skin areas and inhibit bacterial growth.
- Scar Care: Regular application keeps scar tissue elastic and soft.
👶 Protection for Delicate Skin
While essential oils like thyme are very potent, Calendula acts balancing and protecting. It strengthens the resilience of the skin barrier against external irritants.
The core benefits of Calendula:
- Makes dry, rough, and cracked skin supple again (ideal for hand and foot care).
- Soothes irritated baby skin (e.g., in the diaper area) and relieves itching.
- Has a beneficial effect on eczema and dermatitis due to its gentle, non-irritating nature.
⚠ What you should watch out for
Allergy Note: The Marigold belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae). Persons with a known allergy to daisy family plants (such as arnica, chamomile, or chrysanthemums) should test carefully before large-scale application. Otherwise, Calendula is considered one of the most compatible medicinal plants of all.
