Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

The Cell Protection Pro & Anti-Aging Star
Golden Vitamin E oil and wheat germs

What is Tocopherol? Behind the technical term Tocopherol lies the well-known Vitamin E. It is one of the most important vitamins for skin health. In nature, it is mainly found in vegetable oils (such as wheat germ or sunflower oil) and nuts. In cosmetics, it is the "gold standard" of antioxidants. It not only protects our cells but also preserves the cosmetic product itself from spoilage.

🛡 The Shield (Antioxidant)

Tocopherol is an extremely effective radical scavenger. It neutralizes aggressive oxygen molecules (free radicals) caused by UV radiation and environmental toxins.

  • Anti-Aging: By protecting against oxidative stress, it prevents premature skin aging and wrinkle formation ("photo-aging").
  • Cell Protection: It protects the membranes of skin cells from damage and keeps them intact.
  • Synergy: It works perfectly with Vitamin C – the two reinforce each other's effects.

💧 Care & Barrier

In addition to its protective function, Vitamin E is an excellent conditioning agent that penetrates deep into the horny layer.

The noticeable effects:

  • Smoothes the skin texture and improves the moisture-holding capacity of the horny layer.
  • Has an anti-inflammatory effect and promotes wound healing (often found in scar ointments).
  • Strengthens the skin's natural barrier function against external influences.

⚠ What you should watch out for

Dual Function: Tocopherol is often referred to as a "natural preservative" for oils. This is not technically quite correct, but close: It does not prevent bacterial growth (you need preservatives for that), but it prevents sensitive oils in your cream from going rancid (oxidation). Thus, it keeps the product fresh and odorless.
